Boom It. Join the Landmine Clearing Effort in Cambodia!
Cambodia is one of the countries most affected by landmines in the world, with millions of unexploded landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) scattered throughout the country. This has resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, especially in rural areas where people face these dangers daily.
Boom It, a project by Roong Aroon International School students, has collaborated with Cambodian mine-clearing organizations and Thai robotics experts. They've discovered they can build low-cost demining robots to accelerate the clearing process, reduce risks to personnel, and make areas safe more quickly.
Robots can be rebuilt, but human lives cannot.
We invite all Roong Aroon community members to join Boom It in alleviating the threat from explosives by sending Thai robots to help clear landmines in Cambodia.

Snakes and Venomous Animals in Bangkok: Risk Management and Snakebite First Aid
Roong Aroon International School had the privilege of welcoming Dr.Taksa Vasaruchapong , a veterinary specialist from The Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute, Thai Red Cross Society, to provide knowledge on "Snakes and Venomous Animals in Bangkok: Risk Management and Snakebite First Aid."
In Bangkok, we may encounter snakes more often than we think, especially during the rainy season when flooding occurs, forcing snakes to seek shelter in residential areas. Knowing the types of snakes and how to properly respond is therefore crucial.
Key points learned:
• How to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes commonly found in Bangkok
• Proper procedures when encountering snakes at home or educational institutions
• Basic first aid for snakebites (dos and don'ts)
• Common misconceptions about snakes
• Agencies to contact when dangerous snakes are found
We would like to thank Dr.Taksa Vasaruchapong for the valuable knowledge that will help students, teachers, and school staff handle emergency situations correctly. This knowledge not only reduces risks but can also save lives in emergency situations.

A Learning Journey: Discovering Thai Culture Through Literature and Art
Our Grade 6 students embarked on a captivating learning journey, exploring Thailand’s epic Ramakien through poetry, art, and hands-on craftsmanship. They discovered the beauty of Thai literary forms and the artistic traditions that bring these stories to life, embracing each lesson with curiosity and wonder.
This learning journey was not only an intellectual pursuit but also a symbolic experience. The process of crafting poetry and engaging in art reflected themes of heroism and resilience, much like the characters in the Ramakien, who face challenges and hardships on their path. Working together to create stage props was symbolic of the strength found in teamwork—just as the heroes in the Ramakien depend on each other to triumph over obstacles.
During their field study, students had the opportunity to experience traditional Thai craftsmanship, including Khon masks, embroidery, and stage props. Inspired by these encounters, they created their own poetry, reflecting the themes of bravery, perseverance, and cultural pride.
The experience continued with a collaborative effort—students worked together to build a 10-meter-long stage prop for their upcoming performance. What seemed like a challenge turned into an exciting opportunity to express their creativity, work as a team, and gain a deeper appreciation for Thai culture.
This journey has not only deepened their understanding of Thai heritage but also fostered growth in confidence, creativity, and teamwork. Through hands-on experiences, our students learned to express themselves in new ways, collaborate effectively, and take pride in their cultural heritage.

Roong Aroon International School in Bangkok witnessed the celebration of achievements by our MYP Year 5 students on Thursday, March 6, 2025. The MYP students led a very meaningful Personal Project Exhibition ably mentored by T. Caite the Personal Project supervisor and teacher advisors.
The students have worked relentlessly on several projects showcased during the celebrations that matched their interests, passion and willingness to put in efforts for optimal results. The end products of the “exhibition displays” explicitly demonstrated the amount of hard work put into the intricate details of each project. The event was planned by students and led by them very effectively setting up a high standard for future Personal Project exhibitions to emulate and reach greater accomplishments.
The projects that were presented by our batch of nine MYP 5 were titled as under
1. The Dark Side Story villains from Thai literature are depicted and represented as 3D Toy dolls.
2. Storybook with a moral- Multi-layered colorful storybook for children. Matte paper was used for layering and watercolors provided the vibrant colors.
3. Puppets - children’s captivating and inspiring puppetry theatre.
4. Branded Pottery - that was beautifully crafted with intricate details
5. MUN handover book - that also offered skillful public speaking tips
6. Recipe book for the younger years to use as part of our school cooking program.
7. Modern mix of traditional Thai music - for use in the whole school production of Khon.
8. Badminton Guide eBook - to enhance skills in badminton through simple tips and strategic insights
9. Traditional Khon music with modern musical instruments.
The event began with bilingual introductions done in English and Thai by the student MCs. The students took turns presenting their projects and explaining their journey towards their learning and product goals. Each presentation was accompanied by heartwarming speeches by students about how the project helped them grow and how this demonstrated the gist of their overall learning journeys as MYP students. They reflected on their experiences in nurturing the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and embedding the attributes of the IB learner profile. Many teachers and parents in the audience were teary-eyed listening to the heartfelt and kind words of appreciation shared. The presentations were followed by the guests visiting each project display and having a heartful interaction with the students. The guests were seen proactively engaging with students throughout the interaction time.
Overall, the exhibition was a memorable evening for the guests and teachers who enjoyed every moment of this celebration with the students who shared their journey with us all. Congratulations and well-done students for your achievements in the exhibition. My gratitude to the teachers who guided them well in their accomplishments.

🌿✨ Exploring Ayutthaya: A Journey Through History, Art, and Mathematics ✨🌿
Our students embarked on an immersive learning journey through the heart of Ayutthaya’s rich history, where the past came alive through a blend of creativity and critical thinking. 🏛️📜 Walking among the ancient ruins, they not only absorbed the stories of Ayutthaya’s grandeur but also captured its essence through various forms of expression.
As they explored the ruins and majestic temples, students connected with the past by using their artistic talents to document Ayutthaya’s landscapes and architecture. With sketchbooks and watercolor palettes in hand, they recreated the intricate details of the city's structures, transforming their observations into vibrant works of art. This process of visual interpretation also sparked an exploration of the city’s strategic planning—how waterways, roads, and fortifications were carefully designed to ensure the kingdom's defense and prosperity. Through this, students gained a deeper understanding of the mathematical and spatial reasoning behind the city layout.
At the same time, the historical significance of Ayutthaya’s rulers, such as King U-Thong and King Naresuan, inspired students to craft their own poems, drawing on the rich stories of these great kings. By studying royal chronicles and historical events, they refined their language skills, selecting words that honored the legacy of this once-thriving kingdom. Their creative expression through verse became a bridge that connected past and present, telling stories of power, culture, and wisdom.
This multidisciplinary experience allowed students to seamlessly weave together history, art, and mathematics. By analyzing the architecture, understanding the strategic design of the city, and expressing their insights through poetry and art, they not only learned about Ayutthaya’s legacy but also connected deeply with its timeless essence. This journey brought history to life, as students reflected on the interconnectedness of knowledge and its lasting impact on the world around them. Stay tuned for their poems, paintings, and city models that showcase their learning! ✨📜🎨📐

Amazing!
The story began in the classroom when a student expressed a desire to talk with a monk. Since they couldn't immediately meet with a monk, the teacher decided to use "Friendly Heart cards" to help heal the students' minds. The student mentioned that reading these cards always brought peace to their mind and expressed a wish to meet the venerable teacher who shared those beautiful words.
Subsequently, through fortunate circumstances, we discovered that venerable Ajahn Jit would be giving a talk about these "Friendly Heart cards." Therefore, we made arrangements to invite the venerable teacher to give a 20-30 minute Dhamma talk to our students before his scheduled presentation. He graciously accepted our invitation, and here is the Dhamma teaching he presented to our teacher and Grade 12 students:
"Emotions are natural state of the mind. Anger, hatred, fear, and anxiety are resources of life. Once you understand them and use them properly so they function beneficially in your life, they become useful. Do not use them or allow them to dysfunction in your life. Therefore, context and timing are important.
For example, as the venerable teacher explained to the students, if you are anxious about examinations, recognize when you need to review your studies and complete your work steadily, rather than rushing at the last minute. Regarding university entrance examinations, whether you succeed or not is another matter—it depends on various factors. If things don't align properly or aren't sufficient, and you don't pass this time, create new causes for the next examination to better align with requirements.
In living one's life, one must maintain a normal state of mind. One must learn to remove resources that we recognize as dysfunctional to our lives. Try practicing mindfulness, even at the basic level of drawing attention to silence for a moment. Simply lower your eyes to avoid focusing too much on other matters, but don't close your eyes as this may lead to excessive rumination. Just lower your eyes and focus on your breath for three seconds. Making this practice a part of your life is beneficial. When reading a book, return to yourself briefly when turning pages. This trains you in mindfulness, and it is called right attention.
Or when something affects you, lower your eyes and remain in silence for three seconds. Find a way to observe your state of mind. If you feel angry, don't flow with it. Practice calibrating your mind—compare it with your normal state. 'Angry mind' or 'normal mind'—which one is more comfortable? Whatever you choose to do, that's what you get.
The students mentioned that when emotions aren't intense, they can manage their mind, but when emotions become very intense, it's difficult. The venerable teacher taught that the intensity depends on accumulated causes and factors—many issues from many aspects and factors causing anxiety everywhere. Try to be 'a friend to your own mind.' Observe it, see it, encourage it to grow and be matual. Then you will have no mental suffering, only physical hardships related to your work and circumstances.
One particularly endearing concept that students appreciated was the 'tofu mind'—a mind that exists in a plain state but is good for health. Sometimes we marinate it a bit to add flavor, and choosing how to marinate it ourself is the way who we are.
May the merit of Dhamma practice protect our students and all descendants.

Entering through the "Nora World," on the first day of their field study (21-24 Feb 2025), grade 10 students had opportunities to play Nora music, learn how to make Nora beads, wear Nora full costumes, and dance in the role of the fun character "Plarn Boon." This teaching strategy of Nora master, Thummanit Nikomrat, Nora Dramatic Dance National Artist 2021, should be acknowledged and admired, as it helped engage students and strongly fueled their interest in the rest of the learning engagement.
As 'Nora' form of dance theatre of Southern Thailand has been inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, it is worth being learned by the younger generation. This was evident as our students were stunned by the delicacy and grace of Nora's story, dance, and other elements.
Starting term 2 of the 2024-2025 academic year for LLT and Thai studies, and according to the global context of cultural expression, grade 10 students have been studying the local wisdom tradition of 'Nora'. They will study historical background, related literature (Suthon Jartaka), its value, including physical and mental, spiritual, intellectual, cultural, social aspects of wellbeing, and performing practice.
A key aspect of this unit is that 'Nora' continues to exist in our culture and society, promoting strong values of wellbeing at all levels: family, local, nation, and has not been easily displaced by modernity. Beyond merely studying and analyzing these aspects, grade 10 students have been provided learning opportunities through field study at historical old town, Songkhla province. With deep engagement through the expertise of the Nora master, the students will reflect on their newly developed perspectives toward Nora through various ways of communication which are newsletters, articles, and performance. This distinctive wisdom and its value would be promoted and retold through the new generation's perspective, in order to assure that they will further sustain Nora in our social life and society.
This Songkhla field study also allowed our grade 10 students to gain other knowledge about Songkhla's historical periods, unique recipe and local food, historic architecture style, and street art.

Roong Aroon International School and Roong Aroon School congratulate Ms. Pauh Purapati Kulvanit, our Grade 12 student, on being awarded the King’s Scholarship 2025. We are incredibly proud of her success. Discover the inspiring details of her learning journey at our schools.
.
By Pauh Purapati Kulvanit
.
Looking back, I realize just how much Roong Aroon’s approach to learning has shaped me. The constant practice of writing, reflecting, and thinking critically, things that felt like just another Tuesday at school, became invaluable in the King’s Scholar Exam.
.
It wasn’t about memorizing facts but about understanding, thinking critically, and applying knowledge to real-life situations. The questions specifically covered subjects like economics, politics, philosophy, and Buddhism—not subjects I learned in isolation but ones that were always integrated into my classes. Particularly in Thai Language, Culture, and History class, where we didn’t just study directly from our teacher but learned through visiting local communities. My teachers didn’t just give me information; they guided me to discover knowledge for myself.
.
From my perspective, a teacher’s job isn’t to hand out facts we can Google but to help us learn how to think, question, and explore. In the end, I believe I’ve learned how to be an independent learner—something that will stay with me long after I leave Roong Aroon.
.
I really appreciate Roong Aroon for giving me the space to explore who I want to be and what path I want to follow. There was never pressure to conform to a specific path, and over the past two years, I’ve grown and changed so much as a person (hopefully for the better). I’ve questioned my future a dozen times, been scared of what’s next, and reimagined my plans more times than I can count.
.
This scholarship doesn’t guarantee a good future, and it shouldn’t be the only validation of success but it is proof that hard work pays off. A support for me to keep going in the path I dream of.
.
I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me: my parents, my family, my friends, and the entire Roong Aroon community.
.
A special thanks to my teachers from kindergarten through high school, and most importantly, to Ajarn Prapapat Niyom for building this school from the ground up and shaping what we now call “The Roong Aroon Way.” I feel incredibly fortunate to have learned in such a unique environment, and I will always be grateful for the experiences I’ve had here.
